Since its inception during the 2007-2008 academic year, the Qatar Leadership Exchange program's purpose has been to increase appreciation, awareness and collaboration between VCU's Richmond and VCUarts Qatar campuses.

Through this program, an annual VCUarts Qatar Day celebration was created in 2011 and more than 80 students have participated in the leadership exchange since 2014.

The travel of VCU students to VCU Qatar will be on hiatus for the 2020-2021 academic year in order to review this component of the program with feedback from new leadership in VCUarts and VCUarts Qatar. A delegation from VCU Qatar is anticipated to visit the VCU Richmond campus and the VCUarts Qatar Day celebration will continue.
